“Defending Democracy”: The Head of the Central District Administration on the Demolition of the Komsomol Monument in Mykolaiv
The head of the Central District Administration of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Beryza, has expressed support for the demolition of the memorial sign to the Lenin Komsomol near "Yunist."
He shared this on his Facebook page.
— Democracy must be defended. One of the key messages that Ukraine has promoted worldwide is uniting the Western world to fight for democratic values against the aggression of Putin's Russian dictatorship. The world is changing. The elections in Belarus have gone completely unnoticed, and it seems that this country has been decided to be left outside the democratic world. Putin wants to play into Trump's hands, and even more, he wants to hold a victory parade on Red Square on May 9th. Yesterday, in Mykolaiv, the monument to the Lenin Komsomol was dismantled. This was done not at night but publicly during the day. We have the truth on our side, — wrote Beryza.
The official believes that after experiencing shelling and destruction in Mykolaiv, they have come to realize the necessity of such decisions “through pain, grief, and tears.”
– Although comments like “out of place,” “is this the most important thing,” and even “what wrong did the Komsomol members do” still happen. However, thank God, no one was taped to the monument! The cessation of war will be a time for us to restore and gather strength and resources. Mykolaiv has become a fortress in southern Ukraine, and based on this, we must think about the future of our city, — he added.
On Tuesday, January 28th, the dismantling of the memorial sign to the Lenin Komsomol 1918-1978, located near the "Yunist" cinema concert hall, took place in Mykolaiv.
Previously, the relief of Lenin, the plaques, and the weapon held by one of the Komsomol members were dismantled from the sign.
