A retired military officer was adjusting strikes on Mykolaiv and Odesa and was planning to flee to Russia.
A military pensioner was detained in Mykolaiv region for collaborating with the FSB, adjusting strikes on Mykolaiv and Odesa, and planning to escape to Russia.
This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor's Office and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
According to the investigation, in February 2023, the 65-year-old suspect began actively cooperating with representatives of Russian special services. He collected information on the locations of military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Mykolaiv city and region, the operation and location of defense industry facilities, as well as the results of missile strikes on Mykolaiv, Odesa, and Kherson.
The suspect turned out to be a military pensioner from Mykolaiv region, who came to the attention of the occupiers during his trips to Russia even before the full-scale war.
After the start of the full-scale invasion, a staff officer from the FSB contacted the man remotely and offered him cooperation. In exchange for his assistance, the man was promised "evacuation" to Russia along with subsequent resolution of his financial issues.
At the direction of the Russian special services, the agent was gathering intelligence on the locations of Defense Forces that the Russian army planned to strike using Shahed-type kamikaze drones and missile weaponry.
The traitor also conducted reconnaissance at the sites of "hits" to inform the FSB about the consequences of enemy attacks.
To expand the FSB's intelligence capabilities and obtain additional intelligence, the suspect sought out "candidates for new agents of Russia."
For this purpose, he attempted to covertly recruit acquaintances—former law enforcement officers—whom he questioned about the sentiments of active personnel during casual conversations.
Counterintelligence agents of the SBU documented the agent's crimes and detained him at his place of residence.
During searches, SIM cards and two mobile phones were seized from him, one of which he used for covert communication with the occupiers. Communication occurred through anonymous channels in "Telegram."
Investigators of the Security Service informed the suspect of his charges under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law).
The offender is currently in custody. He faces life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
Comprehensive measures were carried out by SBU officers in Mykolaiv region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
