The voting in the USA has concluded
The voting in the USA has finished following the closure of polling stations in Alaska. Donald Trump has already secured 247 votes in the Electoral College, while Kamala Harris has 210. A minimum of 270 votes is required for victory.
Trump also won two out of seven battleground states: North Carolina and Georgia. He is leading Harris in other contested states, where the outcome of the elections will ultimately be decided.
Both candidates' campaigns expressed optimistic assessments of their chances for victory last night.
The Republicans have also taken control of the upper chamber of Congress - the Senate, where they have already secured a majority with 51 seats. Additionally, vote counting is still ongoing in 7 Senate races.
Current vote counting results in the remaining battleground states:
Arizona, 54% of votes counted. Trump – 49.9%; Harris – 49.2%.
Wisconsin, 85% of votes counted. Trump – 51%; Harris – 47%.
Michigan, 62% of votes counted. Trump – 52%; Harris – 46%.
Pennsylvania, 92% of votes counted. Trump – 51%; Harris – 48%.
Nevada, 68% of votes counted. Trump – 51%; Harris – 48%.
