The National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) stated whether there is a threat to Ukraine from the redeployment of Russian troops from Syria.
Russian troops from Syria may be sent to Ukraine. However, this will not significantly affect the situation at the front.
This was reported by the head of the NSDC's Central Department, Andriy Kovalенко.
As of summer 2024, there were approximately 6,000 to 7,500 Russian military personnel in Syria, including members of private military companies.
"Thus, even if all these troops were redeployed to the Russian Federation and subsequently sent to fight against Ukraine, it would not substantially change the situation at the front, considering the relatively high daily casualties of the Russian army in assault operations. Moreover, some of these soldiers may be redirected to Africa," Kovalенко explained.
