In the Mykolaiv region, an officer of the Military Recruitment Center and a former serviceman have been charged with accepting a bribe to influence the decisions of officials at the Military Recruitment Center.
This information was reported by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Defense of the Southern Region.
According to the investigation, in early February 2025, a conscripted citizen was stopped in Mykolaiv by officers from the Military Recruitment Center and the police for a verification of military registration documents. He was subsequently sent to the regional assembly point of the Military Recruitment Center.
His friends, believing that the man was entitled to a deferral from mobilization due to being a single parent, sought assistance from one of the suspects who was nearby the center.
During their conversation with the conscript's friends, the suspects, acting in collusion for personal illegal enrichment, offered to influence the officials of the Zavodskyi Military Recruitment Center for an unlawful benefit of $4,500 in order to secure the man's release from the regional territorial recruitment and social support centers in Mykolaiv region, including the regional assembly point of the Mykolaiv Military Recruitment Center.
Agreeing to the proposal, the conscript's friend informed law enforcement and subsequently acted under their guidance.
On February 13, 2025, while in the entrance of one of the buildings in Mykolaiv, the suspects received the agreed-upon unlawful benefit of $4,500, after which both were detained by law enforcement under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The suspects have been placed under detention with an alternative bail of 196,000 and 181,000 hryvnias.
Additionally, the involvement of other officials from the regional and district Military Recruitment Centers in the commission of the crime is being investigated.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the first investigative unit of the State Bureau of Investigation in Mykolaiv, with operational support from the first operational unit of the State Bureau of Investigation in Mykolaiv.
