The Russian Armed Forces struck Ukraine with "Shahed" drones, hitting a high-rise building and causing fires (photos and videos available).

The Air Force warned about the threat of Russian drones around 8 PM on February 17. The primary direction of the attack was from the east towards the central regions. "Shaheds" were moving through the Sumy region towards the Chernihiv and Kyiv regions, with movement also recorded in Kharkiv and Poltava. Drone groups were also monitored by the Air Force in the south, where they flew through Mykolaiv and Kherson regions towards central areas.

Attack on Kyiv Region and the Capital

In the evening of February 17, the Russian Armed Forces attacked the Kyiv region, specifically targeting the capital itself. Explosions were heard in several districts of the city, and monitoring channels reported the operation of air defense systems.

As a result of the nighttime attack on Kyiv, debris from a drone was recorded falling in the Sviatoshyn district. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that a fire had broken out at one of the industrial facilities. Additionally, as a result of the enemy strike, vehicles in the courtyard of a residential building near the facility caught fire.

There has been no information about casualties or fatalities from the attack on Kyiv, as clarified by the city mayor.

Shortly thereafter, the Kyiv City Military Administration confirmed the information about the debris falling. They reported that warehouse premises in a non-residential area were on fire, and necessary services had arrived at the scene to localize the fire.

After that, the air raid alert in Kyiv was temporarily lifted. It was later reissued due to new waves of strike drones. During the next attack, explosions were heard in the suburbs of the capital, and it was also loud near Irpin. The OVA reported that air defense was active in the Kyiv region.

Kirovohrad Region

During the nighttime attack, drones from southern regions were moving towards central areas, particularly Kirovohrad. Soon, explosions were heard there.

After a while, Telegram channels reported that an enemy drone hit a residential high-rise building in Kirovohrad region. The city of Dolynska was under attack. Photos show flames erupting and smoke rising from the building after the strike.

There is currently no information from official sources. It is also unknown whether there are any casualties or fatalities as a result of the strike in Dolynska, Kirovohrad region.

Poltava Region

The Air Force also warned about the movement of strike drones towards Poltava. Explosions were heard in the regional center, and the air defense system was actively engaged.

Shortly after, another group of strike UAVs reached the city. Explosions occurred in the Poltava district. There is currently no information about the consequences of the attack on the region.

Cherkasy Region

From the Kyiv and Poltava regions, part of the drones moved towards the Cherkasy region. Local channels soon reported the operation of air defense and sounds of explosions in Cherkasy and near the city.

No reports of hits or casualties from the attack have been received yet.

One of the most significant strikes occurred in the city of Zaporizhzhia: it was attacked by at least 10 strike drones during the nighttime bombardment on February 17.
