Russian forces launched drone attacks on Kyiv and its outskirts, resulting in audible explosions in the capital. Here’s what we know (video included).

On the evening of February 17, Russia launched drone strikes using "Shahed" type drones against the Ukrainian capital. A series of explosions echoed through Kyiv, air defense systems were activated, and debris from the downed drones was reported to have fallen, resulting in fires.

Around 8:00 PM, the Ukrainian Air Forces announced in their Telegram channel the threat of enemy drones of the "Shahed" type coming from the northeast direction. The UAVs entered through the territory of the Sumy region, moving towards Kyiv through the Chernihiv region.

In Sumy, local channels wrote about the sounds of air defense operations. They also reported explosions in Sumy.

Shortly after, the drones reached Kyiv, where they approached the capital from various directions. Subsequently, the residents of Kyiv heard the first sounds of explosions.

Local channels mentioned the active operation of the air defense system. Soon, the mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, reported on the initial consequences of the attack on the capital. According to him, a fire broke out at one of the industrial enterprises in the Svyatoshyn district due to the attack.

Additionally, local channels began to circulate video footage of one of the explosions in the capital.

After a while, the consequences of the Russian attack on Kyiv were reported by the Kyiv City Military Administration (KCMA). They noted that a fire was recorded in a non-residential area due to falling debris.

"Emergency service teams are working at the scene. Rescuers are trying to contain the fire," the agency stated.

Shortly after, the air raid alert in the capital was lifted. However, monitoring channels and the Ukrainian Air Forces warn about the movement of new groups of drones in the Sumy region.

Currently, there is no information about casualties or fatalities resulting from the Russian attack on Kyiv.
