The EU opposes Ukraine agreeing to a ceasefire until a peace deal is reached, according to Reuters.

Presidents from several EU countries, along with NATO representatives, assured Ukraine of their commitment to providing security guarantees. At the same time, they emphasized that hostilities should not cease without a peace agreement in place, deeming the situation "dangerous."

At an emergency summit in Paris, initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron, representatives from the United Kingdom, several European Union countries, and NATO gathered to discuss ensuring peace in Europe and assisting Ukraine in ending the war. During the meeting, they also addressed security guarantees that would be reliable and provide Ukraine with a peaceful sky in the future. Following this meeting, politicians reached a consensus that Ukraine should not agree to a ceasefire until a peace agreement is in place. This was reported by Reuters on February 18.

"A group of European leaders agreed at the meeting in Paris on Monday that they are prepared to provide security guarantees to Ukraine, but it would be dangerous to conclude a truce without a peace agreement," the statement said.

European leaders believe that Ukraine must first establish a peace agreement that will ensure lasting peace in the future. They are concerned that without such a document, the threat from Russia could loom over Ukraine and Europe again in the coming years.

At the same time, they reassured Ukraine that they are ready to provide security guarantees for the nation. It is possible that this includes the deployment of peacekeeping troops from other countries to maintain peace and deter Russian forces.

"We are prepared to offer security guarantees, with modalities that will be discussed with each party, depending on the level of American support," one of the EU representatives stated following the talks in Paris.

It is noteworthy that the urgent meeting of European Union leaders and NATO representatives was convened against the backdrop of news regarding bilateral peace negotiations with Russia, which will take place without European allies and Ukraine.
