Украина впервые с 2022 года может получить танковое преимущество над Россией, сообщает Forbes.

The Ukrainian Defense Forces may now have an advantage over the occupiers in tank usage for the first time since the onset of the large-scale Russian invasion. However, this advantage is not observed along the entire front line, but only in specific areas.

According to writes Forbes.

The American magazine reports that this tank advantage for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) is achieved through the use of drones, which drive Russian tanks away from the front line by kilometers and force them to operate solely from concealed positions away from the frontline.

Forbes noted that due to these restrictions, Russian tanks effectively become inaccurate howitzers rather than combat vehicles designed for assault, as intended by the equipment developers.

Moreover, drones are changing the rules of warfare, and robotic systems of all types are increasingly dominating the modern battlefield, as stated in the article.

Forbes analysts examined the testimony of a Russian blogger, translated by Estonian analyst WarTranslated.

In particular, the "war correspondent" from the aggressor country mentioned that amid restrictions on the use of tanks by Russian forces, Ukrainian tanks operate on the front line "more freely," as the AFU have achieved "sufficient scale and diversity of their drones" and have "refined their tactics."

The publication from the American magazine highlights that Ukrainian tanks can approach the frontline directly to strike enemy targets with their guns and machine guns.

Forbes discusses how the potential tank advantage of the AFU illustrates a "reverse development" in the large-scale war of Russia against Ukraine. At the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion, Ukrainian brigades rarely fired directly from tanks due to the overwhelming advantage of the occupiers in artillery and aviation.

However, "tiny drones and jamming systems" are changing the battlefield and shifting the tank advantage towards Ukraine, as noted in the publication.

It is also mentioned that the Russian side complains about the high intensity of radio jamming of their drones by AFU fighters, which prevents them from similarly driving tanks away from the frontline using drones.

An exception to this new dynamic is the Kursk region, where Russian forces employ fiber-optic drones, making them immune to jamming by traditional electronic warfare means. Recently, Ukrainian tanks have been hit by Russian drones in this area.

Forbes concludes that the AFU has gained a tank advantage at certain sections of the front due to their drones, but a lack of infantry remains a challenge for the Defense Forces.

Background. Previously, Mind reported that the Russian-Ukrainian war has become a new type of war, where drones play a key role, and heavy tanks, once the "kings of the battlefield," have proven unsuitable for this new reality.
