The Cause of the Cold Snap — "Eowin"

Earlier, the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center informed that the cold snap in Central Europe was caused by the storm "Eowin." This refers to a powerful mid-latitude cyclone that formed over the Atlantic due to intense baroclinic processes.

"Eowin" rapidly intensified due to a strong jet stream and high ocean temperatures, reaching a central pressure of 940-945 hPa. Wind speeds reached 183 km/h, causing widespread destruction and power outages in the UK and Ireland. Coastal areas experienced flooding due to waves of 9-12 meters. The cyclone also significantly impacted atmospheric circulation.

As a reminder, the Mariupol City Council reported that 15 kilometers of the Azov Sea coastline is already contaminated with heavy fuel oil. A concentrated oil spill is moving towards the city.

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine warned that scammers are sending fake letters from the "Diia" portal to citizens. The Cyber Police Department noted that individuals should not click on links or share personal information.
