Law enforcement officials thwarted an assassination attempt against a family of volunteers in the Chernihiv region. Details were shared on December 10 by the press service of the National Police.
The police uncovered a gang that was planning to blow up the volunteers in their own home using homemade explosive devices. The case involves a couple — the head of a charity fund that supports the Defense Forces and her husband, a demobilized soldier who was severely wounded on the front lines.
The agency revealed the motive behind the crime. According to the investigation, the volunteers refused to pay a fabricated debt for repair work on their house. The suspects prepared four explosive devices filled with gunpowder, nuts, and incendiary cords. They intended to throw the explosives into the bedroom where the couple would be resting.
0 1Law enforcement apprehended two members of the gang — a 43-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman. They were caught "in the act" as the suspects were preparing to break into someone else's home.
Both detainees have been informed of their suspicion in the attempted premeditated murder committed by a group of individuals in conspiracy. By court order, the suspects have been taken into custody. They face life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
In the Security Service of Ukraine, it was clarified that the detainees were the organizers of the gang. Additionally, law enforcement plans to announce suspicion against their accomplice.
2Recall that on December 1, a fatal traffic accident occurred in Dnipro, resulting in the death of a 10-year-old girl. A passenger in a BMW became a suspect in the case, who, according to social media, despite being underage, was driving the vehicle and was involved in the accident. A video surfaced online showing him allegedly behind the wheel again despite the incident. However, police noted that the young man is under continuous house arrest.
The passenger himself denied the information about his trips around the city despite the arrest. He stated that the video was published by a friend and assured that he would not have been able to get behind the wheel even if he had wanted to.
