North Korean soldiers launched an assault in the Kursk region, encountering fighters from the Special Operations Forces of Ukraine. During the battle, a North Korean unit that was navigating through the trees suffered nearly 20 casualties, with one soldier taking his own life. The details of the clash, in which Ukrainian forces emerged victorious, were shared by the SSO command on their Facebook page.

According to the SSO command's report, North Korean soldiers began to storm Ukrainian positions at an unspecified section of the front in the Kursk region. The enemy forces were confronted by the rangers of the 6th SSO regiment, as explained in the statement. The assault was unsuccessful for the Russian Armed Forces: the Special Operations Forces neutralized 17 enemy combatants, while another soldier took his own life.

Details can be seen in a video captured by a Ukrainian fighter's helmet camera, who participated in repelling the attack. The initial frames show enemy soldiers frozen between the trees, but not hidden from thermal imagers. The following scenes depict a group of Ukrainians maneuvering through an area covered with shrubs, low trees, and lightly dusted with snow. Among other things, they pass by a single-story wooden shed. Next are brief clips of scouting points with North Korean ambushes. The last moments show a North Korean soldier pressed against a tree with his back to the observers. At one point, he shouts and raises something to his head: in response, the Ukrainians quickly recoil to avoid potential harm.

The command described the circumstances surrounding the death of the last North Korean soldier. It turned out that Ukrainian forces found a North Korean soldier still moving after the battle. However, the soldier chose not to surrender but to deceive the Ukrainians and cause harm by detonating a grenade.

"The SSO warriors noticed the danger in time and quickly moved out of the blast zone. No one was harmed," the command wrote.

Details on North Korean and Russian Troops

It is noteworthy that on January 12, the South Korean publication Yonhap reported information obtained from two captured North Korean soldiers in Ukraine. Among other things, they confirmed significant losses within the North Korean troops fighting in the Kursk region of Russia. South Korean intelligence stated that approximately 11,000 personnel, sent by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, are engaged in combat against the Ukrainians. Furthermore, 100 soldiers have been killed, and 1,000 have sustained injuries.

This was followed by a statement from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The politician addressed Kim Jong Un, explaining that he is willing to exchange captured North Koreans for Ukrainian servicemen taken by the Russian Armed Forces.

We remind you that The Mirror reported on the contents of a nine-word leaflet that the Defense Forces are scattering over positions occupied by North Korean troops.
