A meeting is taking place between the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and the U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg.
This was reported to the press by the president's spokesperson, Serhiy Nykyforov.
It is known that at the request of the American side, the format of the meeting is ceremonial filming. Questions, statements, and responses are not anticipated.
Following the meeting, a press conference was supposed to occur, but at the request of the American side, it was canceled.
Ukrainian sources from the BBC claim that the Trump administration is increasingly distancing Kellogg from the negotiation process due to his overly "pro-Ukrainian" stance.
The meeting is taking place against the backdrop of sharp criticism from Donald Trump towards Zelensky. The day before, the U.S. President labeled him a "dictator without elections," demanding accountability for the use of multi-billion dollar American aid during Joe Biden's presidency.
Trump also baselessly claimed that Zelensky's trust rating had dropped to 4%, without citing a source for this information (Ukrainian polls indicate over 50%). In response, the President of Ukraine stated that Trump, at the behest of Russia, lives in a "disinformation space."
The relationship between the two leaders has soured following U.S.-Russia negotiations in Riyadh.
Earlier on Thursday, Kellogg met with Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Andriy Sybiha. The minister posted on social media platform X that he met with Trump's representative to "discuss pathways to a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace."
"I confirmed Ukraine's readiness to achieve peace through strength and our vision of the necessary steps," he stated, echoing Trump's phrase.
