On Wednesday, October 16, the Earth will be attacked for the third consecutive day by a powerful geomagnetic storm. It began on October 14, continues until October 25, and now its final day is anticipated.
This information was published on the website of Meteoagent, which creates online forecasts using data from NOAA, TESIS satellite systems, and international scientific meteorological laboratories around the world. Experts reported the geomagnetic activity forecast for March 16.
It is noted that the level of solar (geomagnetic) activity will be — K-index 5. This indicates that the geomagnetic storm is quite strong.
On October 17, the level of geomagnetic activity will sharply decline. It is important to mention that the geomagnetic storm began on October 14 with a K-index of 6, and then continued on October 15 with a K-index of 5.
Note: A geomagnetic storm is a disturbance of the Earth's geomagnetic field. It can last for several hours or can be prolonged, lasting several days.
To assess the intensity of geomagnetic storms, scientists use a special scale – the K-index. Values from 1 to 4 on this scale are considered minor and typically do not affect people's daily lives. However, storms with a K-index of 5 and above can have a significant impact. During powerful geomagnetic storms, equipment may malfunction, and even animal behavior may change. They also affect weather-sensitive individuals.
As a reminder, earlier "Telegraf" reported that at the beginning of October, the Earth was hit by powerful geomagnetic storms with indices reaching levels of 7, 8, and 9.
