Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on reports that U.S. civilian aid programs to Ukraine have been suspended for 90 days at the directive of the new Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

"Regarding the aid restriction – I am not ready to discuss this today. I know there are some limitations on humanitarian programs for 90 days; we need to look into it in detail… I am focused on military assistance, which has not been halted, thank God," Zelensky said during a press conference with Moldovan President Maia Sandu, as reported by "Interfax-Ukraine."

As previously reported, an anonymous USAID employee told Reuters that "staff responsible for projects in Ukraine have been ordered to stop all work. Among the frozen projects are support for schools and medical aid, specifically emergency assistance for mothers and vaccination for children."

On January 24, the U.S. State Department issued an order stating that all new and existing U.S. foreign aid activities are "suspended."

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to make a decision regarding the suspended programs within the next 85 days, and during this time may approve exceptions, Reuters reported.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon stated that this order does not affect military support for Ukraine: "Security assistance to Ukraine is not subject to the recent foreign aid order, as it pertains only to development programs, not military support."
