On January 31, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky awarded the Hero of Ukraine star to the family of the deceased Mykolaiv lieutenant Mykola Belous.

This was reported by the Office of the President of Ukraine.

"Lieutenant Mykola Belous. In November 2023, under constant artillery and mortar fire, he managed to regain lost positions. After destroying an enemy group, he organized the defense and repelled an attempted counterattack. During this battle, the lieutenant sustained serious injuries but continued to lead the combined unit and oversee the evacuation of the wounded. It was only after this that Mykola Belous was evacuated himself, but he died on the way," the Office of the President stated.
