President Volodymyr Zelensky stated his willingness to resign from his position in exchange for peace for Ukraine.
He made this statement during a press conference.
At the press conference, Zelensky was asked whether he would be willing to leave the presidency. In response, he declared that he is prepared to step down for the sake of peace.
“If peace for Ukraine is what you need, and if you want me to leave my post – I am ready. The second question is whether I can exchange this for NATO, if such conditions exist, immediately, so we don't have to discuss it for long,” Zelensky replied to the journalist.
He emphasized that his main priority right now is the security of Ukraine today, not in 20 years, and he does not intend to remain in power for decades.
“I believe NATO is the cheapest option, and that’s the truth. In any case, regardless of who supports it or not, this topic is on the table. And within the framework of security guarantees and negotiations, it will also be present. I don't know how these negotiations will end, but this issue will definitely be discussed,” he noted.
Zelensky also stressed that this matter will be a topic of discussion with international partners.
“It is important for all of us to understand – this is not a negotiating table to which Ukraine is invited. This is our table, because the war is ongoing in Ukraine. We are the ones inviting European leaders, as the war is on our land. We are part of this continent,” the president emphasized.
Background. Earlier, Mind reported that Trump stated that Zelensky “does not care very much” about being present at negotiations with Russia. The U.S. president justified this by saying that the Ukrainian leader has not been able to end the war in three years.
