The inauguration of the elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, will take place indoors rather than outdoors. This decision was made due to dangerously low temperatures predicted in Washington on January 20.
This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing CNN.
Initially, CNN sources indicated that discussions regarding the location of the inauguration parade and other festivities were still ongoing. However, Trump’s team is negotiating the potential hosting of some events at the Capitol One arena, where Trump plans to hold a rally on Sunday, January 19.
Trump's team is also in talks with the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies about how to manage the tens of thousands of people who intended to gather at the National Mall to witness the swearing-in of the newly elected president.
Officials have expressed concerns that the cold temperatures could pose health risks to attendees and guests.
Later, Trump confirmed this information on his social media. He ordered the inauguration to be held in the Capitol rotunda.
"Arctic cold is sweeping the nation. I don’t want people to suffer," Trump wrote.
It’s worth noting that the last president to take the oath indoors was Ronald Reagan in 1985, when daytime temperatures dropped below -13 degrees. Reagan was sworn in at the Capitol rotunda. His inauguration parade was canceled.
Recall that the inauguration ceremony for the elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, is scheduled for January 20. He has not yet officially assumed the presidency.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has not yet announced who will be sent to Trump's inauguration. However, the ministry noted that this is an internal political event for the United States and therefore is not the best format for negotiations or meetings.
