On Wednesday, January 15, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed Law No. 4197-IX "On Amendments to the Law on Military Duty and Military Service," which was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on January 9. This became known due to the change in the document's status on the parliament's website.

According to the law regarding the specifics of conscripting Ukrainian citizens and their medical examinations during basic military training, young men who turn 17 years old are registered for conscription annually from January 1 to July 31, with their information entered into the Unified State Register of Conscripts, Military Obligated Persons, and Reservists.

Young men register through an electronic cabinet and by personally arriving at the territorial recruitment and social support center at their place of registration.

Before undergoing practical sessions of basic military training, citizens must complete a medical examination.

Women who wish to serve in the basic military service are registered for conscription voluntarily.

This law also extends the deadline for military personnel who have committed a service-related offense and voluntarily reported to military units until March 1. For these individuals, the commander must extend the contract and resume the payment of monetary, food, clothing, and other types of support within 72 hours.

As a reminder, the Verkhovna Rada has already extended the state of martial law and general mobilization for Ukrainians for the 14th time, for another 90 days, until May 9, 2025.

Previously, it was stated in the Verkhovna Rada that there is no possibility of lifting martial law in Ukraine immediately after the cessation of hostilities. This process must be accompanied by security guarantees.
