The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine failed to vote on the statement regarding the presidential elections in Ukraine during the state of martial law. This was reported by MP from the "Golos" faction, Yaroslav Zheleznyak, on his Telegram channel.

The lawmakers could not garner the necessary 226 votes (218 voted in favor) for the resolution on the statement "in support of democracy in Ukraine amidst the aggression of the Russian Federation," which indicated that the parliament would declare presidential elections only after a "comprehensive, fair, and sustainable peace" is ensured on Ukrainian territory.

Resolution No. 13039 aimed to affirm a statement highlighting the impossibility of conducting elections during a full-scale war, condemning the illegitimacy of elections in occupied territories and the re-election of Putin there.

"If elections are organized and conducted during the legal regime of martial law, all national and international electoral rights principles will not be upheld," the statement reads.

Specifically, the document emphasizes the legitimacy of President Volodymyr Zelensky and the Verkhovna Rada. Meanwhile, Putin is held accountable for the current inability to conduct free, transparent, and democratic elections in Ukraine with the participation of international observers.

Recently, American President Donald Trump referred to his Ukrainian counterpart as a "dictator" due to the absence of elections. Additionally, a plan to end the war from the US and Russia circulated online, which included the election of a new president of Ukraine among its points.

"The US and Russia propose a three-step peace plan... This plan includes a ceasefire, elections in Ukraine, and then the signing of a final agreement," wrote Fox News reporter Jackie Heinrich.

Let us remind you that Ukraine is ready for an "all-for-all" prisoner exchange.
