In the Zhytomyr region, a fallen Ukrainian soldier was robbed in the morgue: here's how the criminal was apprehended (photos included).
Law enforcement officials apprehended a man who stole from a fallen soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the morgue. The incident took place in the Zhytomyr region. The soldier's wife noticed that a ring, which should have been on the deceased's hand, was missing. The police conducted an urgent search and identified the perpetrator. On January 15, the press service of the National Police reported on how the criminal was found.
According to the National Police's statement, the incident occurred a few days ago during the burial of a Ukrainian serviceman. The soldier’s wife contacted law enforcement after noticing the disappearance of the wedding ring. The ring had been on the man's finger before he was placed in the morgue, but it vanished afterward. Investigations were initiated regarding the crime, including inspections of pawnshops. The stolen item was found in one of them. The perpetrator cut it off the finger to obtain the valuable item, law enforcement explained. The suspect was detained: he turned out to be a morgue employee (name not disclosed).
In one of the photos published by the agency's press service, we see the ring that was cut from the finger of the fallen soldier. The perpetrator used pliers to remove it, which significantly deformed the piece of jewelry.
In another photo, we see the suspect detained by law enforcement: his face is blurred. The National Police's article states that investigative actions were carried out in Malyn. A measure of restraint is currently being determined. The man is suspected of committing a crime under part 3 of article 297 of the Criminal Code — desecration of a deceased body. If the court finds him guilty, he could face imprisonment for a term of four to seven years.
