В Вашингтоне усилили меры безопасности в связи с "повышенной угрозой" после терактов, произошедших 1 января.

Law enforcement in Washington has entered a state of "heightened alert" following the New Year’s Day terror attacks. Three significant events are set to take place in the U.S. soon.

This information comes from RBK-Ukraine citing "Voice of America."

"This has never happened before. We have three [special national security events] within a 15-day period," said Matt McCool, a special agent of the U.S. Secret Service in Washington.

The first event will occur on Monday, January 6, when Congress will certify the results of the presidential election. The second event will be the state funeral of former President Jimmy Carter, with the procession beginning on January 7 and concluding on January 9.

The final significant event is the inauguration of newly elected President Donald Trump, scheduled for January 20.

In light of these events and the recent attacks in the U.S., the Secret Service has announced the mobilization of agents from across the country. Additionally, the Washington Police Department has assembled an extra 4,000 officers.

Furthermore, the National Guard Bureau in the capital has approved requests for additional support, including the deployment of 500 guardsmen. A further request for 7,800 National Guard soldiers and airmen to assist with security during Trump’s inauguration is pending review.

Attacks in the U.S.

Recall that on January 1 in New Orleans, a vehicle drove into a crowd, followed by gunfire. As a result of the incident, 15 people lost their lives, and 30 others were reported injured.

The driver of the vehicle is linked to ISIS, as a flag of the terrorist group was found in his possession. American law enforcement considers the incident to be a terrorist attack.

Moreover, in the early hours of the new year, a Cybertruck vehicle exploded in Las Vegas, which was developed by Elon Musk's Tesla. Initially, police did not rule out a terrorist act; however, the FBI believes the incident should be treated separately.
