In the spring of 2025, the electricity tariff for Ukrainians may rise to 4.7 UAH per kilowatt-hour. This assumption was expressed by Stanislav Ignatiev, the chairman of the Ukrainian Renewable Energy Association, during the "News.LIVE" broadcast on Thursday, October 17.
He noted that current tariffs for the population are significantly lower than wholesale rates, which creates a deficit in the energy market.
"The tariff for the population is several times lower than the wholesale electricity market tariff, and in addition, we must factor in VAT and two more tariffs for electricity transmission by "Ukrenergo" and distribution by regional energy companies. On the wholesale electricity market, the cost of electricity is indeed increasing due to the formation of an electricity deficit. Additionally, we are importing at a level of 1.8 gigawatt-hours during morning and evening hours," the expert explained.
Ignatiev reminded that a presidential moratorium on tariff increases is in effect until May 1, 2025, but the expert pointed out the possibility that prices could rise sooner.
"I have insider information that an increase in the range of 25-50 kopecks may be permissible," he said.
It is worth noting that since June 1, 2024, the population has been paying 4.32 UAH/kWh for electricity.
Recall that on October 15, Member of Parliament Vladimir Moroz stated that electricity prices in Ukraine could rise to 6-7 UAH per kilowatt for the population and 11-12 UAH for businesses.
The chairman of the Union of Utility Consumers, Oleg Popenko, believes that the cost of electricity for the population in 2025 may increase to 6.5-7 UAH per kilowatt.
