A state of emergency has been declared in the occupied city of Sevastopol. The cause is an accident involving tankers in the Kerch Strait, which led to pollution.

This information comes from RBK-Ukraine citing a statement from the occupying governor of the city, Mikhail Razvozhayev.

Razvozhayev announced that on January 4, a regional state of emergency was declared in occupied Sevastopol. This was prompted by the accident of two tankers in the Kerch Strait that occurred on December 15.

"I am personally leading the operational headquarters regarding the situation, and today a regional state of emergency has been declared in Sevastopol," he noted.

Currently, inspections of the coastline are ongoing to identify traces of fuel oil that entered the sea due to the accident.

Tanker Accident in the Black Sea

Recall that on December 15, two Russian tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239" sank in the Kerch Strait due to a severe storm.

Just a few days later, another tanker accident occurred near the port of "Kavkaz" in the Black Sea. It became known that there was a fuel oil leak into the Black Sea, resulting in pollution along the Krasnodar region's coastline.

It is noted that the tanker accident in the Kerch Strait has caused significant environmental consequences. Fuel oil may reach the Sea of Azov.

It should be noted that recently two new pollution sites caused by oil products were discovered in Crimea.
