In Poltava, rescuers have concluded their search and rescue operation following a missile strike by the Russian Federation on February 1. This was reported in a statement from the local regional military administration (OVA).
According to the Poltava OVA, as a result of the Russian attack on a multi-story residential building in the regional center, 14 people lost their lives, including two children.
"[Among the injured] — 20 people were hurt, including 4 children. We were able to rescue 22 individuals," the OVA reported.
The local military administration added that at the site of the Russian missile strike, rescuers, law enforcement officers, medical personnel, utility workers, and volunteers were actively involved. The Poltava OVA extended condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased.
On the morning of February 1, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation launched a massive attack on the territory of Ukraine. As a result of the assault, a Russian Kh-22 missile struck a high-rise building in Poltava, leading to reports of casualties and injuries.
Search and rescue operations began at the site of the enemy strike. Subsequently, it was announced that a period of mourning for the deceased was declared in the Poltava region from February 2 to 4.
Later reports indicated that the number of fatalities increased to 12 as a result of the shelling, including 2 children. Law enforcement agencies noted that the number of injured also rose, with reports of 17 individuals, among them four children.
Further updates indicated casualties from the strike by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on Poltava. Among the deceased was a family with a child, a nurse, and a volunteer.
