The presidential elections in Poland will take place on May 18. A second round may occur in early June if necessary.

This was announced by the Marshal (Speaker) of the Polish Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, as reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Polsatnews.

"After consultations with the Chairman of the National Electoral Commission, I have decided that the voting for the election of the new President of the Republic of Poland will take place on May 18 this year, which means that if another vote is needed, it will be held on June 1," Hołownia stated.

The Speaker of the Sejm also presented a preliminary electoral calendar. Once the calendar is approved by the commission, it will come into official effect.

It is expected that presidential candidates will be able to declare their candidacies until April 4.

The Mayor of Warsaw to be a Candidate

It is worth noting that it was previously reported that the Mayor of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski will run in the presidential elections representing the ruling party "Civic Coalition".

According to opinion polls, Trzaskowski is currently the leading candidate for the presidency.

Meanwhile, the incumbent president, Andrzej Duda, is already serving his second term, so he cannot run again.
