An unidentified balloon was spotted in Poland near the border with Belarus. It has since fallen, and the police are securing the crash site.
This information comes from RBK-Ukraine, citing RMF FM.
According to the publication, the balloon has not yet been identified.
"The balloon fell on Polish territory, near the border with Belarus. This object was discovered in the Sokółka area of the Podlaskie Voivodeship," the report states.
Polish media suggests that the balloon is likely a meteorological device, as there is a weather station near Russian Kaliningrad. Such balloons are typically used at weather stations to measure temperature, humidity, and pressure.
Due to changes in weather and wind directions, they sometimes land in border towns in Poland.
Another theory regarding the balloon's origin is that it may belong to smugglers.
In early July, President Zelensky announced that Ukraine and Poland were working on a mechanism for shooting down Russian missiles and drones with Polish air defense. However, Poland stated that it would not shoot down missiles over Ukraine without coordination with NATO. During an attack on August 26, Polish military forces recorded a possible drone incursion, but the search yielded no results. Earlier, Russian missiles had already fallen on Polish territory, resulting in casualties.
In early September, we reported that an object resembling a balloon with Cyrillic inscriptions was found in a Polish village a few kilometers from the Belarusian border. The Ministry of Internal Affairs believes it to be a weather probe, while the media speculates about smuggling.
