Servicemen from the 19th Mykolaiv Regiment of the Southern Operational Territorial Association of the National Guard of Ukraine are undergoing training before their rotation to the Donetsk direction – they are tackling challenges on a psychological obstacle course.
The soldiers of the regiment reported this.
The psychological obstacle course is a crucial part of the training that not only enhances physical endurance but also develops essential mental skills. One of the key aspects of the challenge is helping to overcome stress. During the exercises, the National Guardsmen, guided by psychologists, learn to adapt to high-pressure conditions, which fosters self-control and quick decision-making in critical situations.
“This is a true test not only for the body but also for the mind. Each stage pushes you to your limits, when it feels like you have no strength left to continue, yet you still move forward. The hardest part is the stress and unpredictability. You never know what awaits you around the next corner, and this teaches you to maintain focus and calmness. When you get through this, you realize: if you managed here, you can handle real challenges on the battlefield,” shares insights from regiment fighter Sergey.
This also helps in building endurance. Constant physical and psychological stressors teach soldiers to overcome fatigue, fear, and uncertainty, which is vital for maintaining effectiveness even in the most challenging combat conditions.
The trials are conducted in units, which further strengthens the sense of responsibility not just for oneself but also for comrades. This nurtures leadership qualities, mutual support, and coordination in actions.
“We create conditions where they achieve more than they could have imagined — these are challenges not only against external obstacles but also against their own fears and limitations,” shares the head of the psychological assistance department.
Additionally, after the trials, servicemen, along with psychologists, undergo a debriefing phase where everyone expresses their emotions, discusses mistakes, and how to act correctly if such a situation arises again. This helps to better understand how each person reacts to stressful conditions and the ways to overcome them.
