In the Ukrainian Carpathians, temperatures dropped to -30 degrees last night. During the day, the thermometer showed -25 degrees. This was reported by the Chernivtsi border guard unit.

"Severe weather conditions continue to prevail in the Carpathians. On one of the mountainous sections of the state border with Romania, the border guards of the Chernivtsi unit have recorded a significant drop in air temperature. During the day — minus 23 to 25, at night — down to minus 30," the statement said.

Forecaster Natalia Didenko warns Ukrainians that the frosts will linger a bit longer in Ukraine, with warmer weather expected to arrive by February 25.

"The cold will retreat, and daytime temperatures will gradually rise, reaching initially 1-5 degrees above zero next week, and later +4 to +9, with even +10 degrees in the west and south," she informed.

Weather for Tomorrow, February 19

The forecaster noted that frosty weather will persist in Ukraine on February 19. Night temperatures are expected to be -9 to -13 degrees, in the eastern regions -12 to -19 degrees, and in the western regions -4 to -10 degrees.

During the day, temperatures in Ukraine are anticipated to be -1 to -6 degrees. Light snow is possible on Wednesday in the west, north, and locally in central regions. It will be dry in the south and east.

Weather in Kyiv for Tomorrow

Natalka Didenko predicts that the temperature in Kyiv will drop to -10 degrees overnight, and during the day on February 19, it will be -1 to -3 degrees. Roads will be slippery. Light snow is possible in some areas.

"Warming in Kyiv, as well as in most regions of Ukraine, is expected to start on February 25, and in just a week we will see water dripping from the roofs and transparent icicles hanging down," warned Natalka Didenko.

Weather for the Week

As written by forecaster Igor Kibalchich, an unusually cold weather period is expected throughout most of the week, with average daily temperatures 5 to 8 degrees below the climatic norm. The frosty weather will be associated with the dominance of a cold air mass of Arctic origin over Ukraine and the influence of a high atmospheric pressure area. Snowfall may occur occasionally, but precipitation is expected to be mostly insignificant.

On Wednesday, February 19, the weather is expected to be dry at night, with light snow possible during the day in western and some northern regions. Roads will be icy. Winds will be variable, at 3 to 8 m/s, with southwestern winds in the northern and western regions at 5 to 10 m/s. Night temperatures will range from -7 to -12 in northern and eastern areas, as well as in the Carpathians, and -13 to -19; during the day -1 to -6, and in the southern part and Transcarpathia -3 to +2.

On Thursday, February 20, light snow is expected in the northern, central, and southern regions, while the rest of Ukraine will see no significant precipitation. Roads will be icy. Winds will be variable, at 3 to 8 m/s, with northwestern winds in western and northern regions at 7 to 12 m/s. Night temperatures will be -5 to -10, -11 to -16 in the eastern part and the Carpathians; during the day -1 to -6, and in the southern and western regions -3 to +2.

On Friday, February 21, no significant precipitation is expected in most regions of Ukraine, with only light snow possible at night in Crimea. Roads will be icy. Winds will be from the north and northeast, at 5 to 10 m/s, with gusts possible in Crimea and the Azov region at 15 to 17 m/s. Night temperatures are expected to be between -6 to -11, -11 to -16 in northern, eastern regions, and the Carpathians; during the day -2 to -7, and in the western part and southern regions -4 to +1.

On Saturday and Sunday, February 22 to 23, frosty and dry weather will persist under the influence of an anticyclone. In the central and western regions, fog and rime may occur at night. Winds will be variable, at 3 to 8 m/s. Night temperatures are expected to be -7 to -12, -12 to -18 in northern and eastern regions, with lows on February 23 dropping to -20 in some areas; during the day -2 to -8, and in the southern and western regions -3 to +2.

We remind you that earlier "Ukrhydrometcenter" reported that the current week and the upcoming weekend will be the coldest and snowiest of the entire winter season. A certain warming is expected next week.
