In Khmelnytskyi, local residents found a newborn baby near garbage bins. Medical personnel and law enforcement were called to the scene. The latter were able to identify the baby's mother. This was reported by the press service of the National Police of Khmelnytskyi region.
The incident occurred on January 15 at approximately 19:50. Concerned passersby contacted the police to inform them that they had discovered a newborn baby near the garbage bins on Ternopilska Street. An ambulance took the newborn to the intensive care unit of the Khmelnytskyi City Children's Hospital.
Information regarding the incident has been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Part 2 of Article 135 (abandonment in danger) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Abandonment in danger is punishable by restriction of freedom for up to two years or imprisonment for the same period.
Shortly thereafter, the identity of the newborn boy's mother was established.
"She turned out to be a 36-year-old local resident who, after giving birth to the boy at home, wrapped him in a towel and brought him outside in a plastic bag.
"Following this fact, investigators from the Khmelnytskyi District Police Department opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 135 (Abandonment in danger) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and are currently determining all the circumstances of the incident," the police reported.
Recall that on November 29, it was reported that in Lviv, a woman who left her child in the "Window of Life" returned to retrieve him. Only after 7 months of various court hearings and establishing paternity was the woman able to regain custody of her son.
