Famed humorist Valery Khait has passed away, leaving a lasting impression on the people of Odessa with his unique comedic style and memorable performances.

The renowned Odessan and legendary captain of the local KVN team, Valery Khait, has passed away unexpectedly at the age of 85. He is remembered as a talented comedian and the founder of the traditional Odessa "Yumorina" festival.

Humorist, artistic director of the humor team "Gentlemen's Show", founder of the "Club of Odessa Gentlemen" theater, and vice-president of the "World Club of Odessa Residents," Valery Khait has passed away at the age of 86. The well-known Odessan died on Saturday, February 1, as reported by representatives of the "World Club of Odessa Residents" on the community's official Facebook page.

"The legendary KVN captain Valery Khait has forever entered the history of Odessa," the club's message states.

Details about the time and place of farewell for the famous comedian have not yet been announced. However, it is assured that the residents of Odessa will have the opportunity to come and pay their respects to their legendary fellow countryman.

Valery Khait was a prominent figure in Odessa, having accomplished much throughout his life. He was a journalist, poet, prose writer, editor, satirist, and television host. He served as the artistic director for several teams, including the group "Business People" and the team "First Team of Odessa Gentlemen." Since 1997, he held the position of editor-in-chief of the Odessa humor magazine "Fontan." He was closely associated with humor throughout nearly his entire life and received the "Golden Ostap" award for "The Funniest Printed Publication."

Khait was also the author of lyrical poetry and prose books, including volumes of essays and memoirs titled "Reader's Book," along with several humorous collections.

Odessans remember Valery for being one of the founders of "Yumorina" — an annual festival of humor and satire held in Odessa on April 1 since 1973. "Yumorina" takes place each year in the form of a carnival procession in Sobornaya Square in Odessa.
