In Belarus, the so-called presidential elections are taking place on January 26. A number of countries have already stated their non-recognition of the results of this "vote."

According to information from "BelTA," 5,325 polling stations opened at 8 AM local time. They will operate until 8 PM. In addition to Lukashenko, four other candidates are "competing" for the presidency. They are referred to as technical candidates, as there is no opposition left in the country.

As of 10 AM, the "elections" have already taken place in the Brest and Gomel regions, where over 50% of voters cast their ballots, reports the Belarusian service of "Radio Free Europe," citing the head of the Central Election Commission, Igor Karpenko. According to him, a total of 47.56% of voters participated in the elections in Belarus.

Early voting took place in the country from January 21 to 25. According to the Central Election Commission, 41.81% of voters showed up at polling stations during the five days, writes "Radio Free Europe."

The Belarusian authorities did not invite an OSCE mission to observe the presidential elections. This is a violation of the state's international obligations.

The head of EU diplomacy, Kaia Kallas, called these elections a "mockery of democracy." "Lukashenko has no legitimacy," wrote Kallas on X.

Previously, the spokesperson for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stated that there are no grounds to refer to the voting in Belarus as "presidential elections," as the results are known in advance.
