After Washington completely froze U.S. aid worldwide, the Trump administration put approximately 60 employees of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) on leave.

According to Politico, this information comes from sources.

On Saturday, the administration urged USAID employees to participate in efforts to reshape U.S. aid distribution globally in accordance with Trump's "America First" policy. The report states that employees who disregard the administration's directives were threatened with "disciplinary action."

In addition, a recent directive required agency officials not to communicate with external entities – even the State Department – without approval from higher authorities.

In an internal memo sent to USAID employees on Monday evening, it was stated that the new leadership had discovered actions within the agency that were allegedly aimed at "circumventing presidential directives and the mandate of the American people."

"Therefore, we have placed a number of USAID employees on administrative leave with full pay and benefits until further notice while we complete our analysis of these actions," the memo from acting USAID Administrator Jason Gray reads.

The memo did not specify how many individuals were placed on forced leave; however, according to Reuters sources, it is reported that this number is between 57 and 60 employees.

According to two sources, officials in leadership positions from nearly all USAID bureaus in Washington, covering various areas from energy to water security, children's education abroad, and digital technologies, were put on leave.
