China welcomes the intentions of U.S. President Donald Trump to resolve the "Ukrainian crisis." Beijing will continue to promote negotiations and is prepared to maintain communication with other parties.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing a statement from the spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning.
During a briefing, the spokesperson commented on Trump's statement at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where he expressed his expectation for China's assistance in ending the war in Ukraine.
She emphasized that dialogue and negotiations are the only viable path to resolving the "Ukrainian crisis" (the term China uses for Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine).
"We are pleased to see that all parties are playing a constructive role and creating conditions for de-escalation and political resolution of the 'Ukrainian crisis,'" said Mao Ning.
Journalists also asked the spokesperson to confirm Trump's statement that he discussed the war between Russia and Ukraine with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
"Regarding the crisis in Ukraine, China will remain committed to facilitating peaceful negotiations, and we are ready to maintain communication with all parties," she added.
China claims to maintain a supposedly neutral position on the war in Ukraine. However, Beijing continues to cooperate with Russia in economic and trade matters, even strengthening their relationship.
In China, there are calls for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. Additionally, Beijing has proposed its own "peace plan." However, Ukrainian representatives have criticized it, as it entails concessions.
During his speech in Davos, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he hopes for China's assistance in ending Russia's war against Ukraine. It is worth noting that last week, Trump had a phone conversation with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
