Poland did not invite the Hungarian ambassador to the handover of powers in the EU. Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó responded to this decision.

This is mentioned in a statement by the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, as quoted by government spokesperson Zoltan Kovacs.

“Pitiful and childish – these are the only words I can use to describe this decision,” said Foreign Minister Szijjártó, condemning the choice to exclude the Hungarian ambassador from the ceremony marking Poland's presidency in the EU.

Let us remind you that Poland will preside over the EU Council for the next six months. Prior to this, in the second half of 2024, Hungary held this role.

At the same time, Poland decided not to invite the Hungarian ambassador to the event dedicated to the beginning of Warsaw's presidency in the EU. This occurred after Budapest granted asylum to a former deputy minister. This concerns Marcin Romanowski, a deputy from the former ruling party in Poland, "Law and Justice," who is involved in an investigation.

Background. Earlier, Mind reported that Poland is starting its six-month presidency in the European Union Council, taking over this role from Hungary.
