The court has detained the mayor of Irpin, Markushin.

The court has placed Markushin in custody until March 22, 2025, with the possibility of a bail set at 30 million hryvnias.

The case concerns the mayor of Irpin's trip abroad, which lasted from August 24 to August 30, 2022. According to law enforcement, Markushin allegedly traveled to Italy not to provide assistance to the military, but to see his 2-year-old son.

“I left the country for a few days after receiving permission from KOVA, returned with two drones, and saw my son. The regional police investigated this case for two months and found nothing, while the State Bureau of Investigation 'fabricated' the suspicion in two days. I believe that the case against me is politicized and ordered by my opponents,” Markushin stated during the hearing.

According to the prosecutor, Markushin did not provide any documents confirming his volunteer activities abroad. The prosecution requested a preventive measure in the form of detention for 60 days or a bail of 40 million hryvnias.

The lawyer claims that the suspicion is currently unfounded. The defense expressed its readiness to take Markushin under its care and requested to deny the motion for his detention.

“We will file an appeal and challenge this illegal decision,” Markushin reacted to the chosen preventive measure.
