Since the onset of the Russian invasion, Ukraine has lost more military personnel than the United States did in both the Vietnam and Korean Wars combined, stated U.S. Special Envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, during an appearance on Fox News.
He did not provide specific figures, only noting that this war involves “hundreds of thousands of casualties” on both sides.
According to Global Security, 47,378 American soldiers died during eight years of fighting in Vietnam, while the Korean War saw 33,651 casualties.
In total, these armed conflicts resulted in the deaths of 81,029 U.S. soldiers.
Moreover, in December, Kellogg stated that Russia's total losses in the war, which has been ongoing for nearly three years, are five times higher than Ukraine’s, estimating the number of dead at 350,000 to 400,000 compared to 150,000 for Ukraine.
He attributed this disparity to “meat assaults” – a standard tactic used by Russians and North Koreans.
According to Western intelligence, the losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine amount to up to 100,000 killed, as reported by The Economist at the end of November.
On the Ua Losses portal, which provides detailed statistics, the death toll for the Armed Forces of Ukraine is reported to be 68,437 servicemen. The average age at the time of death was 38.3 years.
On December 8, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that since the beginning of the war, 43,000 soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have died. According to him, another 370,000 have been wounded to varying degrees, but half of them have returned to service.
He estimated Russia's losses at 198,000 killed and over 550,000 wounded.
In October, the British Ministry of Defense estimated Russia's total losses throughout the war at 648,000 individuals (200,000 killed and 400,000 wounded, according to preliminary data).
At the same time, the Pentagon provided similar figures: 615,000 individuals (115,000 killed and 500,000 wounded).
