In Germany, early parliamentary elections are set to take place in February. Amidst this, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is concerned about billionaire Elon Musk's support for the far-right party "Alternative for Germany" (AfD).
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine referencing his interview with Stern.
Scholz stated that he is not bothered by Musk's attacks on him and other German politicians. He pointed out that social democrats have been accustomed since the last century to wealthy media entrepreneurs who do not appreciate social democratic policies and do not hold back their opinions.
However, the Chancellor is much more troubled by the American billionaire's backing of the far-right AfD party.
"What worries me much more than such insults is that Musk is campaigning for an extreme right party like the AfD, which preaches rapprochement with Putin's Russia and seeks to weaken transatlantic relations," Scholz said.
He also responded to several other statements made by Musk. In particular, the billionaire referred to the German Chancellor as a "fool" and the country's President Frank-Walter Steinmeier as a "undemocratic tyrant" on his social media platform X.
"The Federal President is not an anti-democratic tyrant, and Germany is a strong and stable democracy. Musk can say whatever he wants. In Germany, the will of the citizens matters, not the unstable statements of a billionaire from the USA," emphasized the German politician.
Additionally, he mentioned that he would not invite Musk to meet in his office.
"I am not thinking about winning Mr. Musk's favor. I will gladly leave that to others. There are many people on social media who seek attention with outrageous slogans. The rule is: do not feed the troll," Scholz summarized.
It is worth noting that recently the German government accused Elon Musk of attempting to interfere in the federal elections in the country. In particular, German government spokesperson Christian Hoffmann stated that Musk has the right to freedom of speech but questioned his conclusions. This pertains to his support for the "Alternative for Germany" party.
