The security service and law enforcement agencies have uncovered two mercenaries who attempted to carry out sabotage on the railway. They were apprehended within a day of committing the crime.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine with a link to the Security Service of Ukraine.
According to the SBU, the detainees were two residents of the Khmelnytskyi region. They were executing orders from Russian handlers. It is known that the Russians recruited the men through Telegram channels.
They planted explosives on the tracks and detonated them upon seeing a freight train approaching. However, the train operator was able to stop the train in time, so no one was injured as a result of the explosion.
The men recorded their actions on video for accountability to their crime clients. After committing the crime, they planned to go into hiding. However, within a day, the police and SBU employees located them and arrested them.
Mobile phones containing evidence of correspondence with the enemy were seized during the searches. Both men face a sentence of 15 years to life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
