Russia has closed the Polish consulate in St. Petersburg.

On January 8, the Polish General Consulate in St. Petersburg, Russia, was closed. The ceremony was attended by the country's ambassador to Russia, Krzysztof Krajevski.

This was reported by the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"This is retaliation for the decision of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to close the Russian General Consulate in Poznań after uncovering Russian sabotage in Poland," the statement reads.

Krajevski noted that the Polish consulate would return to St. Petersburg in "better times." It had been operating in the Russian city for 52 years. Polish diplomatic missions still function in Moscow, Kaliningrad, and Irkutsk.
