South Korean intelligence has released information regarding North Korea's casualties in the war between Russia and Ukraine.
This was reported by Yonhap.
According to South Korean intelligence, the North Korean army has suffered significant losses in the war against Ukraine.
Specifically, they report 300 soldiers dead and approximately 2,700 wounded.
The National Intelligence Service (NIS) shared this information with lawmakers during a closed session of the parliamentary intelligence committee, as stated by Lee Song-kwon, a representative of the ruling People’s Power Party.
Based on an analysis of recently obtained combat footage, the NIS stated that it associates the “mass casualties” of North Korean soldiers with their “misunderstanding of modern warfare,” including "futile" shooting at drones from a distance.
Furthermore, the South Korean intelligence agency claims that due to the situation on the frontlines, North Korea is employing radical methods, forcing its soldiers to commit suicide to “avoid being captured alive by the Ukrainians.”
Commenting on a three-minute video released by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which shows two wounded North Korean soldiers in Russia's Kursk region, Lee noted that the soldiers “did not express any intention to flee to South Korea.”
In the video, one of the soldiers stated that he wants to stay in Ukraine when asked if he wishes to return home.
According to NIS estimates, these two soldiers served in the Main Intelligence Directorate, a key North Korean military intelligence agency.
