"Key stance": Ukrainians will be able to receive vaccinations at pharmacies by the end of the year, according to the Ministry of Health (video).

Minister Viktor Lyashko stated that he himself is not getting vaccinated and is urging politicians to take action to initiate the reform. The Cabinet approved the relevant resolution at the end of February.

The Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko stated that he is risking his own immunity to push for vaccination reform in Ukraine. This was reported during a press conference titled "European Integration of Ukraine: Healthcare."

"I hope to receive the flu vaccine at a pharmacy this year. And all of you will also be able to get the flu vaccine where you purchased it, without having to go to the hospital," he emphasized.

The official explained that this is part of the "standard European practice" of all EU countries and a typical example of the euro-integration processes.

"I have not been vaccinated against the flu this year — this is a principled position of the Minister of Health. At a meeting, when yet another bureaucratic issue prevented the reform from being implemented, I stated that I would not get vaccinated and my illness would be on your conscience until you create regulations that allow flu vaccinations at pharmacies," Lyashko shared.

The Cabinet has already permitted it

On March 4, 2024, the government portal reported that the Cabinet of Ministers approved a resolution that opens access to vaccinations in pharmacies. It was noted that this is a common practice in the European Union and the United States.

"This government decision will make vaccination even closer and more accessible," the press service emphasized.

According to the Cabinet's decision from February 27, pharmacies that have medical practice licenses will be able to administer vaccines immediately after selling them. The Government has provided a simplified procedure for obtaining this license, along with simplified requirements for a license solely for conducting vaccinations.

Additionally, pharmacies must ensure the availability of necessary equipment and tools. Pharmacists must undergo training in vaccine safety, organization and technique for administering vaccinations, and providing first aid in emergency situations.

"The Government's decision will take effect three months after its publication. During this time, consultations will be held, and a list of economic entities wishing to obtain a license and conduct vaccinations by pharmaceutical workers will be verified. They will be able to vaccinate against seasonal flu in the upcoming epidemic season of 2024/25," the government portal informed.

It’s worth noting that a Spanish study showed the effectiveness of flu vaccination for children.

On October 18, MP Gennady Krivoshea reported that Ukrainian soldiers found a syringe in the meat. The logistics operator at the Ministry of Defense effectively confirmed that the chicken had been injected with water.
