The team of the elected U.S. President Donald Trump has not yet proposed anything "interesting" for Moscow regarding the resolution of the war in Ukraine, stated Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, reports The Moscow Times, citing an interview with the ambassador on the "Russia-24" channel.
"These are some vague, unrefined signals about readiness for something. We often hear the term 'freezing the conflict.' President Putin clearly stated on December 19 the conditions under which we are ready to discuss not freezing, but ending this conflict. <…> But so far, nothing coming from the new American administration indicates that it is something that would interest us," Nebenzya said.
According to him, recently there have also been "signals from the Ukrainian side about some agreements," but they should not be taken seriously.
"The question is, when will Zelensky finally, let’s say, be able to want to sit at the negotiating table, at what line of combat engagement will this take place. The further we go, the worse the conditions will be for him; he has been told this for a long time. The question is up to him," Nebenzya stated.
Background. Recall that earlier the Russian envoy to the UN stated that Russia does not wish to freeze the conflict and will continue the war. According to him, a pause would allow the Ukrainian side to rearm and "heal its wounds."
As reported, Trump's special envoy Keith Kellogg, the author of the "peace plan," will visit Ukraine in early January. Kellogg's itinerary will include other European capitals, but not Moscow.
