Over 100 psychiatrists and psychologists have sent an open letter to Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico demanding his resignation. In response, Fico accused them of "political bias."
Source. This was reported by DennikN.
The authors of the letter are two figures in psychiatry and psychology, Jozef Hashto and Anton Jeretik. Specialists from across Slovakia have signed the appeal.
"Your political behavior is characterized by an increasing degree of authoritarian power style, manipulation of facts, lies, slander, and attacks on political opponents, journalists, and ordinary citizens who express disagreement with your policies," the letter states.
Psychologists and psychiatrists also pointed out the "improper behavior" of the Slovak Prime Minister towards President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to them, it appears as if Fico is "sending corrective slaps to a student from a distance."
Furthermore, they condemned Fico's negative attitude towards Ukraine and his trip to the Russian dictator Putin.
Additionally, the doctors criticized the internal policy of the Slovak Prime Minister, which, according to them, is solely aimed at consolidating his own power. They believe that Fico pays insufficient attention to issues related to infrastructure development, the poor state of education, and healthcare.
Moreover, Fico's foreign policy initiatives "contradict the policies of the European Union and NATO," the letter asserts.
"We hope for your capacity for self-reflection and the possibility to adjust your political behavior, including the option to step away from high politics," the open letter states.
A similar letter was published by the Slovak Chamber of Psychologists.
The head of the Slovak government has already publicly responded to the appeal on his Facebook. He labeled the authors of the letter as "longtime opponents of the current government" and accused them of abusing their profession for political purposes.
"It is with great regret that I have to state that you have grossly abused your professional mission for political ends and have lost any respect among a vast number of people in Slovakia," Fico wrote.
He also stated that changing the government requires not "pseudo-medical brochures" but democratic parliamentary elections.
Background. As reported, Fico refused to go to Zelensky in Kyiv and called his proposal "childish." Instead, he suggested meeting in Davos to "determine the future of Slovak-Ukrainian relations."
