Local authorities are working to implement a differentiated air threat alert system in Kharkiv. On February 4, during a telethon, Mayor Igor Terekhov explained how this would change the lives of residents amid regular shelling by the Russian Armed Forces.

The introduction of the differentiated system is expected to have a positive impact on the situation in Kharkiv. As the mayor clarified, this would result in less disruption to the operations of banks, government institutions, and businesses.

Moreover, if air raid signals indicate a real threat to Kharkiv, residents will pay closer attention to them and will not ignore the alerts. Currently, alerts are issued for the entire region, meaning that residents are warned of danger even when the city is not under fire.

Terekhov reported that in January alone, alerts were declared 182 times in Kharkiv. However, only 54 of these alerts were related to a genuine threat to the city.

"In total, last month, air raid alerts in Kharkiv lasted for 13 days. It is very important for us that the differentiated alert system becomes operational, as life in the city will look entirely different then. However, we are awaiting special permission to implement this system," the mayor explained.
