On December 27, 2024, the Cabinet announced the extension of rental housing subsidies for internally displaced persons (IDPs) across all of Ukraine. This opportunity is available for those who have relocated to any Ukrainian region, whereas previously the subsidy was limited to only 9 Ukrainian regions.
"This will significantly reduce the burden on family budgets," stated Shmyhal during the government meeting on Tuesday, January 21.
The Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine also assured that the formation of subsidies will take into account the differences in rental costs across various regions to ensure fair payments to citizens.
"The new mechanism recognizes that rental prices vary significantly not only between different regions but also between large cities and small villages," the ministry reports.
However, to qualify for the government subsidy, several conditions must be met.
To obtain a rental subsidy from the government for IDPs, the financial and property status of the family must meet the criteria outlined in the resolution.
First and foremost, families who rent housing and whose rental expenses account for 20% of their total monthly income are eligible for the subsidy. It is worth noting that the Cabinet previously indicated this threshold would be 30%, but it was ultimately reduced.
Additionally, citizens need to be aware that the key instrument of the program is an official rental agreement, which individuals must sign with property owners. The subsidy will be provided individually for each family, and its amount will also depend on the rental cost of the housing.
