On Monday, January 6, in Ukraine, Orthodox Christians and Greek Catholics celebrate Baptism, or the Theophany of the Lord. On this day, some people traditionally immerse themselves in icy waters. The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center shared the weather forecast for Baptism.
According to meteorologists, the weather for Baptism in Ukraine is expected to be cloudy, relatively mild, but with occasional precipitation. Light wet snow is forecasted at night on January 6, with rain during the day, especially in the western and southern regions.
Air temperatures will range from -3 to -8°C at night. In the Carpathians during the day, temperatures will vary from -1°C to +4°C. In Crimea and most southern regions, temperatures could reach up to +9°C.
On the roads, except in the south, icy conditions are possible in places, so caution is advised.
The wind will be from the south at 7-12 m/s, with gusts reaching 15-20 m/s in the western and southern areas during the day.
In Kyiv and the Kyiv region, the weather for Baptism will also be cloudy. There will be no precipitation at night, but light wet snow and rain are expected during the day. Icy conditions may occur on the roads.
Temperatures in the capital will be -4 to -6°C at night and 0 to +2°C during the day. In the Kyiv region, temperatures will range from -3 to -8°C at night, and from -1°C to +4°C during the day.
A new synoptic week in Ukraine will begin with warming, as reported meteorologist Natalia Didenko. By January 7, air temperatures in certain regions will reach +5 to +12°C. Atmospheric fronts will bring damp weather: wet snow will gradually turn into rain.
The wind will predominantly remain from the south, occasionally gusty. Kyiv will also experience warming: on Tuesday, temperatures will rise to +7°C.
"Keep your heads and vessels balanced, don’t wet your feet, watch your step on the roads, wrap your neck, and feed the birds properly," Didenko advised.
Let us remind you that on January 6, meteorologist Natalia Didenko stated that starting Tuesday, Ukraine will warm up to 10 degrees.
