In Poland, in the city of Piotrków Trybunalski, a 32-year-old Ukrainian citizen has died after seeking help at the hospital's emergency room due to breathing difficulties and low blood pressure. The young woman was not properly examined and was sent to a clinic, where she was diagnosed with a heart attack and subsequently passed away. This was reported by the Polish publication tvn24.pl.
It was noted that the Ukrainian woman went to the provincial hospital in Piotrków Trybunalski with symptoms of an upper respiratory infection, breathing difficulties, and low blood pressure. However, she was not hospitalized. A nurse in the emergency department informed her that her condition did not require assistance from the emergency department, and she was directed to a doctor at the clinic.
Two hours later, when the 32-year-old woman visited the clinic, the doctor stated that she was having a heart attack and her condition required immediate hospitalization. An ambulance took her back to the same hospital, but it was too late for assistance — the woman died.
The hospital is currently conducting an internal investigation into the actions of the nurse, while law enforcement is looking into the case of the Ukrainian woman's death.
"Following a complaint from the patient's husband, who was hospitalized in our hospital, an investigation into the treatment was initiated, including the circumstances surrounding the referral of the patient from the emergency department to a primary care doctor. As a result of this procedure, a violation of patient service protocols in the emergency department was established, specifically the failure of the nurse, who was on duty in the medical sorting area that day, to conduct mandatory triage," said Bartłomiej Kazmierczak, a representative of the Provincial Hospital in Piotrków Trybunalski.
According to him, measures have been taken against the staff member — a reprimand was issued and recorded in her file. An investigation of the entire therapeutic process of the patient has been conducted, from the moment of admission to the emergency department to the transfer and hospitalization in the cardiology department with an intensive cardiological therapy unit. The hospital is awaiting the results of the patient's autopsy.
The prosecutor's office has already taken up the case regarding the death of the 32-year-old Ukrainian woman in the hospital in Piotrków.
"The District Prosecutor's Office in Piotrków Trybunalski is conducting an investigation into the suspicion of creating an immediate threat to the life or severe bodily harm of the 32-year-old woman from Ukraine, resulting in her death. The Provincial Hospital in Piotrków Trybunalski has taken procedural actions to establish the circumstances and course of events, particularly whether third parties were involved in the woman's death," stated Prosecutor Dorota Mrowczyńska, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor's Office in Piotrków Trybunalski.
For the criminal proceedings, a penalty of up to five years in prison is provided.
It is worth recalling that earlier in Kraków, Poland, a 25-year-old pregnant Ukrainian woman died. She was brought in unconscious with bleeding from Nowy Targ and could not be saved. Three children were left orphaned.
It was also reported that in Słupsk, Poland, a truck hit a Ukrainian girl. She succumbed to her injuries. The deceased was a young artist from Kherson, Olga Mityelka, who moved to Poland after the full-scale invasion of Russia.
