According to NATO's air command, on January 15, two Norwegian F-35 fighter jets were deployed for the first time to protect Polish airspace in response to the takeoff of Russian aircraft involved in attacks on Ukraine.
This incident marked the first operational flight of Norwegian aircraft for the active defense of Polish skies.
"Yesterday, two Norwegian F-35s stationed in Poland were scrambled in response to a significant number of Russian aircraft," the statement reads.
It was previously reported that Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that Russia intends to carry out terrorist attacks not only against Poland but also against airlines worldwide.
Background. Recall that congress members have repeatedly urged Biden to allow Poland to shoot down Russian missiles over Ukraine. Specifically, this concerned those missiles that are headed towards Poland and would undoubtedly enter its airspace.
