The Nikolaev prosecutor, found guilty of treason, has once again appealed his life sentence.

Materials regarding the appeal of the former head of the Nikolaev Regional Prosecutor's Office, Gennady German, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for state treason, have been submitted to the Supreme Court.

This was reported by “Judicial Reporter”.

The lawyer's appeal on behalf of German was submitted back in November. However, the Supreme Court left it without movement, allowing time to rectify deficiencies. Among other things, the court pointed out that the appeal allegedly did not indicate significant violations that would demonstrate the illegality of the court's verdict and the appellate decision that left it unchanged. Furthermore, the appellant referred to the incompleteness of the pre-trial investigation and judicial proceedings (a series of expert examinations were not conducted), questioned the reliability of certain evidence, and the discrepancies between the court's conclusions and the factual circumstances of the case.

On December 27, 2024, materials to rectify the deficiencies were submitted to the Supreme Court, and the case was passed to a judge for reporting.

The appellate court confirmed the first-instance verdict and the chosen punishment of life imprisonment.

Initially, during a search of his residence, German did not deny correspondence with Podolyak, but explained that he sent information to a blogger he "found on the internet to objectively cover the situation in Ukraine." However, later in court sessions, German claimed he had never communicated with Podolyak or Bezler and did not plead guilty.

The defense attempted to prove that the prosecutor's employee and German's partner, Irina Androsova, could have accessed the mobile phone, laptop, and computer. After German was informed of the suspicion in December 2022, Androsova left Ukraine and did not return. Later, she was charged with glorifying armed aggression by the Russian Federation. It became known that in March 2022, she persistently convinced her son that Ukraine was to blame for the war and supported the actions of the Russians.

German's case has garnered attention: the former prosecutor is accused by the relatives of Ukrainian soldiers who died during a missile strike on the barracks of the 79th Separate Air Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Nikolaev on March 18, 2022, of directing missiles at this target.
